I need Deposits!
If you are joining us for the trip - make sure you get me your $100 deposit as soon as you can. Alternately, pass it along to any of PVC's pastors (I won't be there Saturday night) and they will make sure it gets to me. Thanks!
It looks like Google has made big progress linking Blogger and Picasa - so I've posted a bunch of pictures from our trip to Mississippi last year. Take a look:
Updated Information for "Mission to Mississippi 2007"
Trip Updates Here is our current cost estimate:
Airfare: $226.60
(that's not really an estimate, but our locked in price)
Car Rental: $60.00
(1 car per four people)
Gas: $20.00
Food: $50.00
(we'll be largely eating donated food)
Other stuff: $up to you.00
---------------------------
Total: $300 to $400
per person
Note that last year's cost was $364 per person, of which about $200 was covered by donations from church members.
If you are planning on coming, you may want to think about raising some support for the trip and find sponsors. You can use this Sample Letter as a template for a letter to send out to prospective supporters.
Please look in the archives of this website to see the description of where we are headed and the likely accommodations, etc. Start in January 2006 and work your way through February 2006, April 2006 and May 2006. Because this is a blog, you have to work your way from the bottom to the top of each of those pages to get it in proper chronological order.
Remember, you must let me know that you are coming by Tuesday, March 19. Send me an email at markbulk@comcast.net.
The News! We are heading to Waveland Mississippi again this year to contribute to the rebuilding efforts there. We will again be partnering with Lakeshore Baptist Church in Waveland, MS. We had a great trip last year, bringing about 25 members down there to work hard and make progress.
We'd like to bring just as many again this year, so we need you!
The Plan Our basic plan will be this: 1) Fly down to New Orleans early on May 2nd. 2) Drive to Waveland (about an hour and a half trip, we could fly into Gulfport, but there are no direct flights from here) 3) Survey the work projects for the upcoming days on the afternoon of the 2nd, and perhaps get started. 4) Work hard Thursday through Saturday 5) Leave Sunday morning. (Unfortunately, the flight schedule does not allow us to stay for morning worship, unless we can convince Pastor Elbourne to have a very early morning service). 6) Return home (at Dulles) the afternoon of the 6th.
What to Expect The accomodations down there range from cots to tents - so be ready for a camping-like experience (although I will say that our food was much better than camp food last year).
The expected cost for the trip will be about $500 (most of that for the flight down and back and the rental cars), but I will firm up the numbers in the not too distant future.
We need people willing to come and to help out in the following areas: 1) Food preparation - we will be doing our part to help prepare food for all of the volunteers that are down there 2) Stocking "store" shelves 3) All sorts of building (drywall, roofing, etc., etc.)
